leonardo rodriguez

I‘m blown away Leonardo’s work, full of painstaking detail and humour, I’m going to spend the rest of this evening painting with watercolours now :) He’s a freelance Illustrator from Barcelona, portfolio here and blog here.

Garamond Powerlines

Interesting type experiment created out of a bunch of electricity pylon and powerline photographs. By a guy called Daniel, the rest of his work can be found here.

New Zealand Watercolour

My mate Phil has just uploaded his sketchbook of a trip to New Zealand to his Flickr. Lovely stuff, makes me feel guilty for not drawing more on my trip… You can see all his sketchbook travels here.

Looking for Work?

I‘ve been haemorrhaging money for the past 6 months, it’s about time I got a job again! So if you are in need of any design or illustration help then lets team up! I’m interested in hearing about fulltime or freelance work, but to be honest I only really want to work within walking distance of Shoreditch or from home, can’t stand the commute!

I’ve worked in a variety of roles in the digital industry for the past 10 years, I’d like to think there’s not much I don’t know about all aspects of web design, advertising and marketing. That doesn’t mean to say I only do online, I’d say I specialise in all kinds of visual & creative stuff. I’m not the sort of person that likes to work on concepts that are nailed down already or follow strict design guidelines, but  I am the sort of person that likes to live and breathe a project and invest and good amount of myself into it. I feel my work is a bit like a performance and you’re only as good as your last show, I try to wring the very best out of myself each time.

• You can see examples of my Illustration work here.

• There’s some examples of Design work here.

Well if you think you might have some work for me, I’m available as of now, please get in touch at: cookie {at} made-in-england.org

Safe for work Porn

This is probably old news but I’ve been in the wilderness the past 6 months, so it’s new and impossibly hilarious to me! First off I can’t believe I haven’t seen this Safe for work Porn website before, it’s genius. Diesel has taken the concept and made this video for their 30th birthday party, love it.

pig anatomy

There’s something quite comical and cute about these biological cross section 3D puzzle things. Shame they’re so small, there’d be awesome fullsize. You can get a whole load of different animals though, from snails to mammoths at kinderland.

Jesse LeDoux

Jesse Ledoux, formally art director for Seattle-based Sub Pop Records, now a freelance illustrator. Some great work, I especially like these watercolour blob characters.

iPhone wallpapers

At last I’m finally out of my old Orange contract and have got myself a new shiney iPhone. Just stumbled across the site Poolga which has a pretty impressive selection of wallpapers you can download for it for free. I especially like the simple silhouetted animal shapes by Laszlo kovacs.

I‘m loving the massive wool afros on these dolls by Marilyn and John Neuhart, from the 1960′s. Got a feeling there might be some experimenting with barnets on mine and Nicky’s sock monkey’s soon :) See the full interview with Marilyn on The Scout.

Cock shaped guitar

To be honest I had intended to kick start my blog back off with a load of nice design and illustration finds, but I could resist posting this ridiculous cock shaped guitar!

First blog post from sunny England! I’ve been back a while now, but have been ill the past few days so couldn’t muster the effort to write anything… Anyhow, I don’t normally like posting YouTube videos, but this literal version of Take On Me by A-ha made me piss myself. Dustball has also made a follow up – Head Over Heels, not quite as good though.

A big thankyou to everyone who has sponsored us :) So far we have raised a whopping £2,019.99 for The Cystic Fibrosis Trust, I am sure there will be more to come now that we have made it to the end. Remember you can sponsor us online here.

Well in the process of raising all those pounds, we have lost quite a few ourselves! Here is our before and after shots so that you can laugh at how much we have changed!

Simon Cook

Originally I was 185 pounds, cleanly shaved and sported a fine moustache. Now I am 150 pounds, and a bit of a beardy weirdy. (The lady who drove us to Lethbridge said when she first saw me, she thought I was a crystal meth addict) Think I need to put a bit of that weight back on… Also my hair has changed colour quite a lot since I have been away, my eye brows have almost gone white!

Paul at the start

Originally he was 168 pounds, cleanly shaved and going a bit bald on top. Now he is exactly the same as me, 150 pounds and also a bit of a beardy weirdy and still a bit bald up top. Although I think he has clearly won the beard growing competition with that big bush on his chin.

“I will be a bit sad to see the beard go as it has kept me warm the last month or so but my girlfriend Claire has already started the bribery proceedings and it will be getting shaved off when I meet her in Calgery in a few days.

All in all the trip has been a fantastic experience and one that will not be beaten for a very long time. Its been an opportunity to have a real adventure and we will be boring family and friends for years to come with stories and anecdotes of the trip.

I would also like to thank everyone that has sponsored us so far for their suport and generosity but there are still a lot of our friends who we will be chasing when we see them next. You know who you are….” Paul
