Good Things Should Never End

Just gone live today is Poke’s latest site for Orange – Good Things Should Never End. It’s part of their unlimited campaign and the idea is that it’s an unlimited webpage that never ends! (Apparently Dezza informs me that you can get to the end, but it’s so bloody long that you’d be mad to try) What do you put in a webpage that never ends? Well a funny little world where things cycle, repeat and loop endlessly like the elephants above. You can also add to a never ending doodle, play with musical chickens, breed a mutant alien race, talk to robots, make ice-cream, watch monkey’s breakdance, go fishing, read a moustachioed man’s mind and things of that nature.

There’s shit loads of people who worked on it in the office, but off the top of my head – Knotty & Dezza coded it, My lovely Nicky drew all the rainbows :) Rex drew and animated all the characters (quite a few of which sport moustaches) and many many more…

WWF – Get on Board

WWF Get on Board Help strengthen the Climate Change Bill

For the past couple of weeks my desk has been slowly disappearing on a mountain of paper boats, planes and assorted cut out paper graphics… All for a good cause though, WWF are campaigning to get the UK government to tighten up on Carbon emissions in the Climate Change Bill currently going through parliament. Why all the paper boats and planes? Well we’re trying to highlight the fact that the fastest growing source of C02 emisions – international aviation and shipping – aren’t currently included in the proposed carbon budgets.

Get on Board and help strengthen the Climate Change Bill.

It’s been a good project to work on, I’ve really enjoyed designing/cutting/folding it. Now it needs lots of people to get on board, so make sure you head over and sign up.

POKE won the pitch for the site by coming up with the idea to write all the petition signatures on the biggest piece of paper that we could source, then fold it into a massive paper boat and plonk it into the Thames to float past the Houses of Parliament! Sadly that didn’t turn out to be possible, or at least practical. We’re still going to build a massive paper boat and plane, but carry them on a sea of supporters to parliament instead. Not sure the exact date of the event yet, but will post details as soon as I know.

Dom Goodrum, Digital Ninja

Design work of Dom Goddrum

I was just discussing with Nicky the other day how funny it was that non of the designers at POKE really had their own portfolio sites. I suppose it probably because:

  1. We’re all so happy working here that we don’t want to draw peoples attention to ourselves and lure us away.
  2. Or perhaps it’s because we’re worked to the bone and don’t have the time.
  3. Or maybe we’re all down Owl & Pussycat whenever we’re not working and just haven’t got round to it.

Well Dom must have avoided the pub for a couple of weeks because he’s just knocked out a little portfolio of his skills. A solid mix of stuff in there, be sure to check it out. But wait a minute, does this mean you’re trying to peoples attention to lure you away Dom?

Musical Stereotypes

Here’s some illustrations of various musical stereotypes I’ve just done for Orange. Made me realise how out of touch I was in the hairstle/fashion world, had to research all but the folk dude to work out what they should look like…

Cartoon musical stereotypes, folk, emo, goth, nu-rave etc...

Busted by the Bunnies

Cartoon strip of trying to get into playboy bunny party

Last night Kester and Dezza tried get into the launch party of Playboy’s new London shop. Sadly they got busted, but fortunately Kester made this comic strip about their attempt.

Tacheback 2007

Cock and balls with a donate sign hanging from it

For the month of September (considerably longer for me) the Hirsute poke elite have been growing their moustaches to raise money for everyman’s testicular cancer research. We’re almost at the end of the month so have created a moustache mix & match viewer on our homepage, click here see how they’re coming along.

There’s a link on there to our sponsorship page if you would like to donate to this worthy cause (it might save you scrotum)

POKE's Pirate Piss-Up

Sadly Emma is leaving POKE today :( She’s decided we’re all far too immature, so is off to teach a load of school kids instead. The good news though, was that we got to throw her a pirate themed picnic in Regents Park to see her off! We started to work our way through a case of Mount Gay Rum at 5pm, Kester was being sick on his feet by 8.30pm, Dave got us all barred from Primrose Hill Pub by 9pm, me and Alex downed Jagermeister and Red Bull Depth Charges at god knows o’clock and Igor was last man home at 5am. I’m still hungover now, 48 hours later…
