You might of noticed I’ve been updating a few things round here, well I think I’ve finally got my blog looking and working just as I like it now. Still got a loads of work to add to the portfolio, will be adding new/old stuff each evening. Apologies to folk who subscribe to my RSS, I think my post dating of old work might be a bit annoying…

Anyhow, just wanted to give a big thank you to Nico Nuzzaci who built it for me. He’s made it super easy for me to update, it’s just the same as posting normal blog entries but to special hidden categories. I’m loving it :) The multi talented Nico not only designs and develops at Poke, but he’s also lead guitar in CRANK, rock on!

Also a pre-emptive nod to Knotty who’s trying to figure out how to get my Google maps widget working for our Continental Divide Trail walk shortly.

Danbooru

danbooru - cartoon porn

Ihad to have a bit of a think before I posted this. Danbooru is particularly not safe for work, I had a fair job finding the relatively clean image above… I don’t really understand all this cartoon porn, but after stumbling across this site, I’m actually quite amazed at the quality of illustration! It might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but you’ve got to admire to skill and time and effort put it. Some of it is laugh out loud funny.

Gravatars

Gravatar icons

Inoticed after upgrading my blog to WordPress 2.5 (I’d recommend it, looks much better!) that some people in my comments admin area had little icons next to them. Where are these icons coming from I wondered and I want one too! Turns out they’re called Gravatars, or globally recognized avatar, it’s simply an avatar image that follows you from weblog to weblog appearing beside your name when you leave a comment. It’s your email that identifies you, and you can set up multiple avatars for your different email accounts.

It’s a great idea, I’d recommend setting your own up, unless you like being Bingo from Banana Splits reading a Playboy mag, which is my default avatar for you ;)

Beer Bottle Brick

beer bottle bricks

I‘m well into this, I’d love to live in a house made out of beer bottles! Apparently back in the 60’s Mr. Heineken came up with the idea while concerned about the about of litter/wastage beer bottles were causing. Sadly they never saw the light of day… shame.

Poke Sticker Saverbook

Poke Sticker Saverbook

Client: Poke | Agency: Poke

This hasn’t been printed yet, but here’s a preview. At Poke we have to get our visitors to wear a sticker with the poke logo on while they’re in the building – something to do with fire regulations. We thought we could possibly use this to do something nice for our visitors, so we made this Sticker Saverbook. Basically it work like the old Green Shield Stamps, each time you visit you get your security sticker, when you leave you peel it off your jumper and add it to the book. So for clients who visit a lot, they can save up for some special Poke treats from our goodies catalogue :)

Infographic of the CDT

This is an infographic of my 3000 mile route across America on the Continental Divide Trail, due to start walking in May 2008! I produced this to get my head round the basic logistics – The white markers are towns we’ll be passing through to get supplies, with the dates we’re hoping to get there. The black & orange arrows indicate how many miles there are in between each town, how many days I expect it will take us to cover the distance and the average daily distance we need to do to get there on time. It looks deceptively simple, but this took me hours and hours to work out, and went through many many revisions!
