A Love Letter For You

I‘m loving this series of murals – A Love Letter For You, by Stephen Powers. He’s still got a few more to do (50 comissioned in total), reminds me a bit of Bob & Roberta Smith’s shop signage stuff around Hoxton Street, although Steve’s stuff is much more graphically interesting and funny.

More awesome wedding invites

Stumbled onto Studio On Fire’s blog Beast Pieces. Plenty of gorgeous letterpress work, but particularly taken by the collection of wedding invites they’ve printed. Loving the ligatures on the invite above by (the groom) Jefferson Perky.

It’s interesting that they print a whole set of cards, invites, RSVP’s, thankyou cards etc all in one go – “One of the things that we do to make printing them affordable is run all of the pieces on the same press sheet. Our presses are big enough to run several different cards on the same press sheet, then trim them down to size. This represents a huge cost savings over printing individual cards, setting up the press for each form on each card”.

Great old school boombox with the love dial set to max, designed by Adam Ramerth. This design is even available for customisation if you’re interested.

Lovely set:

Loving all the colour combos and mix of paper stock & printing techniques. Great all together set with nice envelope labels, perforated RSVP’s and even tiny little envelope to send it back in. Designed by Erin Jang.

Pornographics - Vintage Porn Logos

This is alot safer for work than you might think ;) It’s quite a surprisingly good collection of vintage porno title frames and logos, put together by the appropriately named Pornographics agency.

Here’s the video:

Great time lapse video from German hiker Christoph Rehage growing his beard (and barnet) while walking back home from Beijing?! He didn’t make it all the way back to Germany, just across China (4646km), but he did keep a bloody good account of his hair growing.

I’ve seen a few facial hair time lapses over the years, none as good as this. Some times it’s the standard day by day frame by frame technique, but usually he mixes it up with multiple shots as he rotates showing more of the scenery, or people in the background and some great timely facial expressions.

Strange seeing him shave it all of at the end, looks a completely different person, character even, I think he looks like a nicer person with the beard, he’s kinda slightly sinister without? Anyhow I know when I shaved my beard off after the CDT it freaked me out and I grew it straight back to cover the person I didn’t recognised below. If think with the caption “was it really me?” at the end, he felt the same. Grow it back Christoph, beards are best!

Kevin Cyr paintings of old vans

Kevin likes painting an unlikely subject matter, generally derelict old vans. But boy does he paint them well, rust, dents, graffiti, every imperfection and sign of age. I’m bloody love by ‘em.

Wedding Invite Extraordinaire

I‘ve designed a couple of wedding invites lately so was interested to see what someone else had done when I saw this on 30gms. Wow, everykind of awesomeness! Designed by the groom Matt Dorfman, a designer from New York.

Stefan Kanchev - Stamps

Wow, the work of Bulgarian Graphic artist Stefan Kanchev is blowing my mind. Fantastic line, form and colour combinations to die for.

He style inspired by Bulgarian folklore and traditions, reminds me a lot of the more recent Finnish folklore inspired work by Sanna Annukka.

Stefan Kanchev - buildings stamps

I think I like his stamp designs best out of his vast body of work. It seems I’ve blogged about them before, but never knew the original designer. It’s funny I’ve drawn some trees recently almost exactly the same is these here, weird..

Logos by Stefan Kanchev

Crap load of great logo designs too.

“Stefan Kanchev was not just talented but also exceptionally industrious artist. All of his works to the last letter were drawn by hand. His passion was so great that often he worked night and day without stopping. The artist’s wife remembered that he was working at his drawing table till the last moment when he was taken to the hospital. Stefan Kanchev died in 2001 at the age of 85.”

Chipmunk vs Ewok

God knows how long photographer Chris McVeigh (powerpig) had to wait for these chipmunks to get in position to take these shots.. Worth the wait though, they’re amazing! All shots from the series here »

This one of Chewy handing over the nut cracks me up:

Chewy feeding a chipmunk

Make sure you check out the rest of his work, consistently awesome.

Neil Krug

Apparently Neil uses old expired Polaroid film to create this vintage look, but it’s not just the colour palette, loving the angles and composition. These 2 shots are taken from his PULP ART BOOK project in collaboration with the rather tastey supermodel Joni Harbeck.

This was the first thing I saw after just watching Alejandro Jodorowsky’s El Topo (The Mole), I’d love to see this guy do a remake of it.

sean connery as bond, does it get any cooler than this?

I randomly stumbled across this photo of Sean Connery playing Bond on Kateoplis tumblr. I thought to myself – have I blogged about Bond before, probably not? Then I searched my site and found a random snap my mate got of Jaws & Odd Job on a night out, an amusing book on the Birds of the West Indies by a James Bond, a cardboard Aston, some inspired work, and mine and Nicky’s trek up to a Bond film location.

So I have blogged about Bond before, but you can’t have too much of a good thing eh?

Obama Naked with Unicorns

This is one of the weirdest things I’ve seen in a while.. by an equally strange artist called The Painter of Pancakes. He says he started painting after “I had something of a mental and spiritual breakdown”, makes sense, and he also adds “My paintings sometimes horrify my family”. Well I say good work, they put a smile on my face, check out all his Naked Obama’s with Unicorns here »

Some other links:

Bizarre video of him here.

Check out his paintings for sale on eBay.
