Freshly graduated from Bath Spa illustration is Toby Triumph. He has more than a passing interest in old seadogs, men with lovely moustaches and dancing animals, which happens to right up my street too.
It’s been a long while since I’ve ever really used the filter menu in Photoshop, but it seems they’ve come a long way since the old flaming text effect ;) Came across the Permanent Press filter from Mister Retro, and I must say I’m pretty impressed. Turn your shiney crisp computer generated graphics into vintage offset prints full of character and soul. There’s a load of presets, above is a couple of examples, but you can tweek and adjust just about everything. Costs $99.
Here’s a handy site – Printable Paper has a job lot of paper templates like graph paper, isometric grids and all sorts of officey forms and stationary. Quite useful just for background textures and such like.
