Couldn’t dig a hole in this lava field, just had to find a deep crack to lay it into…

Most of today we were walking across this lava filled valley floor, it’s name is Spanish for ‘the badlands’, doesn’t get much more cowboy than that :)

It’s still snowing! I’m really regretting not bring any gloves for the New Mexico section… My hands were useless frozen lumps by the time I’d packed away the frozen tent this morning :(

On the upside, the snow made what would of been a fairly boring road walk, reasonably interesting this morning :)

More like mud canyon in the wet… Actually the only reason were in here was to avoid the lightening bolts striking all around us, pretty scary…

Sometimes you’re not sure whether you’re trespassing when getting water from ranchers windmills etc.. These guys left out a sign for us and even some seats to have a rest on, super nice ranchers :)
