how the bleedin eck do you get that textured effect across your illos? what’s the technique? if you care to share.

I’m way ahead of you Chris. Basically the layer with the illustration on is set to ‘Multiply’ and underneath is a paper texture. You can download some paper textutes I made here:

Also you can add some more texture to the illustration layer by dropping something into a layer mask, I’ve got more info on that technique here:
