Fancy shooting Tex

We came across a rendevous re-enactment while we were in town. In the good old days of mountain men, apparently they all used to meet up here to sell all the animal pelts they’d trapped.

Interesting fact I didn’t know was that they made top hats out of beaver! Anyhow, there was a good deal of shooting and axe throwing going on :)

Battle Pass

Ahappy site after a hard days hike :) We tried hitching for an hour, but the traffic was so light we started walking the 10 – 15 miles down to Encampment… Fortunetly we got pick up only and mile or so down the road!

Green and pleasant land

We’re soaking up as much of this lush greeness as we can, because we’ll be in Wyoming’s Red Desert shortly… Not sure if you’ll be able to see, but there’s a herd of elk running across the meadow in front of Paul.

Halfway!

This tree marks the boundary between Colorado and Wyoming, that means we are give or take halfway there! By our current calculations, 12 weeks down, only 12 to go :) In some ways it’s a bit depressing – feels like we’ve been walking forever and we’re ONLY halfway? Ah well, Wyoming is the shortest state, we’ll soon have that under our belt and be on the home straight in no time.

1:250,000

Slight fuck up with our mail drop at Steamboat Springs… Posted ourselves the maps for Montana instead of Wyoming! Hopefully our man in America – John is posting them to the next town as we speak. But for the time being the only thing we have to go on is the ripped out pages of a 1:250,000 scale road atlas…

Update: Cheers John, got the maps now!
