Tachetags

Tachetags

Movember + Twitter & Hashtags = Tachetags! This was the brainchild of a mate at Blast radius, who got me in as the ‘moustache expert’ to make it happen.

Basically the idea is you upload daily photos of your folical folly to twitter (using twitpic, yfrog or img.ly) and add #tachetag in the text. We’ll pull them all into tachetag.com where you and anyone else can see your progress and, if they like the look of your hirsute heroics, add a donation in your name.

There a few more features in the wings, like being able to post images directly on the site, personal pages with all your photos and hopefully an animated gif of it growing.

Weekly Desktop Part 45

Different moustache styles illustration

Well we’re 3 days into Movember, so here’s a summary of possible moustache styles in desktop picture format to inspire all those taking part this year. If this is the first you’ve heard of Movember then you should sign up and help change the face of men’s health.

The illustrations are actually taken from a fun Movember related site I’ve been working on, more details when it goes live… soon!

Layer Tennis

Layer Tennis

This very exciting news – me and Rex Crowle will be playing in an All-English bout of Coudal Partner’s Layer Tennis this Friday. The idea is we swap a photoshop file back and forth every 15min over a match of 10 ‘volleys’. I’ve no idea how it’s going to pan out, but I suspect they’ll be much doodling of monsters, moustaches and general mayhem.

I think we’re going to create a little lawn tennis club in my front room, I’m going to paint my desk to look like a little tennis court with our Macs either side. Obviously we’ll be quaffing Pimms and munching strawberries & cream in between each volley.

The match kicks off 4pm Greenwich Mean Time and lasts about 2 and a half hours.  Sign up for your free season tickets here and watch it live on the internets!

To get a flavour of what it’s all about, check out last weeks match between Jason Santa Maria & Derek Powazek. Jason also wrote an interesting account of the match here »

Getting a leg up in Porn

Getting a leg up in Porn

Warning: this is not safe for work and not recomended for any kiddies, but for the rest of you, it is bloody funny :) It’s a spoof of those old eductational / instructional films. Complete with fake moustaches, all-knowing narration and the latest 1970s technology, it demonstartes how a young, naive farm girl can become a seasoned bukkake-taking professional!

The short “Getting a leg up in Porn”, was second-place winner at last year’s HUMP festival, Seattle’s best (and only) amateur porn contest. I’ve not been able to find any info on who made it though…

If you want to see it online and don’t mind visiting a porn site… click here »

If not, I found a quicktime version while looking for who made it, which you can download here » (it’s much better quality too).

The use of the Mousetrap (pictured) to deliver a cum shot made me fall off my chair.

Lost 35 pounds, raised £2,019.99

A big thankyou to everyone who has sponsored us :) So far we have raised a whopping £2,019.99 for The Cystic Fibrosis Trust, I am sure there will be more to come now that we have made it to the end. Remember you can sponsor us online here.

Well in the process of raising all those pounds, we have lost quite a few ourselves! Here is our before and after shots so that you can laugh at how much we have changed!

Simon Cook

Originally I was 185 pounds, cleanly shaved and sported a fine moustache. Now I am 150 pounds, and a bit of a beardy weirdy. (The lady who drove us to Lethbridge said when she first saw me, she thought I was a crystal meth addict) Think I need to put a bit of that weight back on… Also my hair has changed colour quite a lot since I have been away, my eye brows have almost gone white!

Paul at the start

Originally he was 168 pounds, cleanly shaved and going a bit bald on top. Now he is exactly the same as me, 150 pounds and also a bit of a beardy weirdy and still a bit bald up top. Although I think he has clearly won the beard growing competition with that big bush on his chin.

“I will be a bit sad to see the beard go as it has kept me warm the last month or so but my girlfriend Claire has already started the bribery proceedings and it will be getting shaved off when I meet her in Calgery in a few days.

All in all the trip has been a fantastic experience and one that will not be beaten for a very long time. Its been an opportunity to have a real adventure and we will be boring family and friends for years to come with stories and anecdotes of the trip.

I would also like to thank everyone that has sponsored us so far for their suport and generosity but there are still a lot of our friends who we will be chasing when we see them next. You know who you are….” Paul

SUMMARY:

I’d say I was a bit of a Jack of all trades, I like to have a go at pretty much anything. But I’m mainly an Illustrator & Designer specialising in vectors & textures, art direction & web design.

  • Creative Art Direction
  • Illustration
  • Animation
  • Graphic Design
  • Interactive/Interaction Design
  • User Interface & Web Design
  • Sock Monkey makin’
  • Digital Advertising
  • Branding

EXPERIENCE:

Freelancer
October 2008 – Present

Recently I’ve been creating the illustration style & iconography of Skype business. Designing a massive cookery and product showcase site for Philips, to replace their boring brochureware appliances section of philips.com. Stiching a London 2012 olympic mascot (got through the first round). Designing a series of t-shirts for a fashion label. Doing some infographics for the BBC and designing a blog for Cadbury’s move into sourcing Fairtrade Cocoa beans.

Designer/Illustrator/Art Director at POKE
September 2005 – May 2008

My role at Poke was mainly focussed on Web Design and Art Direction. I made everything from cock-doodling sites, charitable campaigns, sites for celebrities like David Gest and bread & butter stuff for clients like Orange and Yahoo. There was an inspiring collection of people working here and I learned a lot from them.

Information Architect & Interaction Designer at France Telecom R&D
April 2005 – September 2005

This was an odd move for me in retrospect, I took the role mainly because of the team of old friends I was working with from my Nortel days. I was working on developing a new mobile phone operating system – I really enjoyed the problem solving and rigerous simplication of the IA, but I missed the creative side and didn’t stay too long.

Designer/Illustrator at Glue London
October 2001 – April 2005

Initially hired as an illustrator and animator, I worked on a lot of online advertising campaigns from microsites to banner ads. I also developed my Web Design skills here and became lead designer on most major sites like Virgin Trains. I also spent much of my downtime on a series of pet projects that pretty much became glue’s brand intentity.

Interaction Designer at Nortel Networks
July 2000 – July 2001

I worked at Nortel first as a 6 month placement while I was a university, and then came back once I’d graduated. It was a really great job just thinking of possible future applications for the technology that their scientists were developing. A lot of brain storming and then creating interactive presentaions explaining our ideas. Sadly when the technology shares went through the floor in 2001 the whole department was axed…

EDUCATION:

Northumbria University
1st BA (hons), Design for Industry
1996 – 2000

Weird degree title, but it was basically Industrial Design/Product Design. I really enjoyed this degree, they can’t teach you how to design things that haven’t been invented yet, so what they taught you was basic problem solving and creative thinking. Even though I’m not following my industrial design roots, I still think they were a solid foundation. I taught myself Flash during my time at Uni, hence the change of direction.

Do you look like your blog?

You know the old saying ‘owners look like their pets‘. Well I was discussing blogging in general with my girlfriend Nicky last night and we wondered whether bloggers looked like their blogs?

Ok so here’s a test, this is me and this is my blog:

comparison of how much Cookie looks like his blog

I generally wear things that I like and don’t ever really give a thought (or fuck) to how they’d all look together. Today is a reasonable example; I’ve got my Social Suicide suit jacket, funny t-shirt, standard jeans, a pair of Nike vintage trainers and the card board graphics I was working on last night in a plastic bag.

I think I post to my blog in pretty much the same way as I dress. I just post the things that interest or amuse me without much (or any) editorial thought or planning. So at the moment the blog is sporting a post about car icons, a picnic table condiments set, some vintage photography and some graphic art… and it has a moustache just like me too!

Both me and Nicky thought this was conclusive proof that ‘I look like my blog‘. Do you or don’t you look like your blog and why?
